Now that we are finally getting a reprieve from the cold weather, most homeowners are turning their attention to their A/C units. One important thing that should bed one at this time is to shut off the humidifier and thoroughly clean it.
We can certainly perform this service while doing your spring A/C check and cleaning. But for the DIY crew, here is what you should do.
Checked Your Humidifier?
Turn your humidistat to the “off” position or the lowest relative humidity setting. If you have a bypass unit, close the damper. Remove the front cover to get access to the filter. Pull out the water feed tube and remove the frame that holds the filter. Throw away the old filter and wash out the frame and distribution panel. Clean out the inside of the unit and then reassemble with a new filter. Make sure the drain line is wide open and has no sediment build up. Now your unit is ready for next fall/winter heating season.
Unfortunately, too many people neglect to perform the proper maintenance and end up with plugged drain lines and white powdery sediment blown into the house via the duct system. A thorough cleaning will eliminate these potential problems.
